Joshua Jessop is a wonderful young man. Each day, the Year 7 student comes to Richmond School with a smile on his face, enjoys being with his friends and gives 100% to his lessons.  His enthusiasm and determination are tremendous and an inspiration to us all, given that Joshua suffers with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), a life-limiting genetic muscle-wasting condition, for which there is no cure.

Over time, Joshua’s health will deteriorate and he will increasingly become more reliant on others and machines to do everything for him.  To help Joshua be as independent for as long as possible, his parents are hoping to create a ground-floor, wheelchair-accessible, adapted bedroom and bathroom which is going to cost £60,000. 

An appeal to support the Great North Air Ambulance Service in memory of Mr Clark has received an overwhelming response. Following the devastating and untimely passing of Mr Clark, a much-loved and highly regarded Deputy Headteacher at Richmond School and Sixth Form College, his family announced they would like any donations in his memory to help the vital work of the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) in the area.

York & North Yorkshire LEP has worked with all LAs and partner organisations region-wide to develop a plan to reshape the region’s economy in order to address the challenges and opportunities arising from the pandemic.

The plan follows on from the immediate COVID response and aims to address the economic challenges businesses are continuing to face as well as focusing on stimulating growth over the next 18 to 24 months, accelerating a transition towards a carbon negative economy.

Forty-one problem solvers have received top awards in a national Mathematics competition.  The Year 7, 8 and 9 students from Richmond School and Sixth Form College have been awarded Bronze, Silver and Gold, certificates from the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust (UKMT) which organises a series of challenges for the gifted and talented in Mathematics.

A team of newly-appointed Headboy, Headgirl and deputies will be leading Richmond Sixth Form College’s virtual open evening on Thursday 15^th October. Fresh into their new positions, the students will present a series of films at the event to highlight the outstanding teaching and careers support as well as the exceptional extra-curricular opportunities they experience at the college.

Thursday 1^st October sees the launch of this year’s Original Richmond Business and Tourism Association’s  (ORBTA) Loyalty Card promotion. This year there are 18 prizes to be won, including a £100 voucher to spend in ORBTA member businesses.

Following the successful upskilling of employees at hundreds of businesses in York, North Yorkshire and East Riding, the Skills Support for the Workforce (SSW) programme has secured a further £1.2m of funding to support employers to empower their staff and turn their business growth plans into reality.

The 50% increase in the contract means businesses and their employees in Richmondshire can take advantage of free skills training until 2023.
