Training the next generation of life savers

Over 200 Year 8 students have received vital first-aid training in how to respond to an emergency and perform CPR.  The Richmond School students took part in a series of hands-on training that saw each of them work with a ‘Resusci Anne’ mannequin to simulate a real-life emergency situation.

Jo Foster is main speaker for December meeting

Jo first moved to Richmond from her native North East as a toddler when her family took over the running of the Black Lion Hotel. After graduation from Liverpool University, Jo moved to London and then to Sydney to pursue careers in advertising and brand innovation. Jo returned to the town with her husband in 2008 to set up her own business - boom innovation Ltd which works with blue-chip companies to find consumer insights and generate ideas. In 2006 she founded night-time aromatherapy company Kiss the Moon.

Students’ festive designs spread joy across the community

Students at Richmond School and Sixth Form College have pooled their artistic talents to create a stunning collection of Christmas designs which will be shared with the local community during the festive period.  Their outstanding artwork is adorning Richmond Library, Tesco at Catterick Garrison, as well as a dedicated display area at The Station. In addition, ten of the designs have been made into Christmas cards and have been sent to staff and residents at care homes in Richmond.

A sixth form student, who aims to become a research chemist, has been ranked top in the country on the highly-acclaimed Best Choice Chemistry programme. Betsie Scott Hall, a Year 13 student at Richmond Sixth Form College, uses the programme to consolidate and further her knowledge in topics covered in class and to prepare for subjects that are still to be covered.

KICKSTART SCHEME

The Kickstart Scheme provides fully funded 6 month work placements (25hpw) to young people 16-24 year old in receipt of Universal Credit.  Businesses are being encouraged to support young people by hosting these placements.  Businesses with 30 or more placements can apply directly but if they can’t commit to this they can apply via a Kickstart Gateway organisation.
